Christmas Party, December9, 2007
Report of November 11 Dining at El Toro
Cantina, Museum Row area, Los Angeles.
A cozy group applauded Odette's
choice for a Sunday evening in the mid-Wilshire area in a
restaurant decorated with artifacts and dramatic paintings
typical of the Mexican style. Carolyn M., Odette R., Audrey O.,
Diane L. and Marilyn T. found our favorites among the menu
choices and pursued some quality gabbing and catch up time with
members not seen in awhile. Odette
showed photos of her recent
30 day trip around parts of Africa and shared her experiences
traveling
as her own tour guide. A fun time. Report by Marilyn

We open
the restaurant door with anticipation. Not-quite-recognizable
aromas dart toward us, and we see the plates of diners heaped
with colorful entrees. We glance around, find familiar faces,
wave and join the others for the evening’s dining adventure. |

About
Ethnic Dining
Discovering unusual restaurants that offer delectable dining is an
adventure by itself. In most months, usually on a Saturday or
Sunday evening, Ethnic Dinner leader, Odette, arranges for us to
meet in such a place. Someone invariably asks Odette, “Where did you
find this restaurant?” Often her response is that a friend had a
birthday dinner there or someone told her about it. Having traveled
to some of the most remote parts of the world, Odette can fill us in
on the details, including spices, preparation and even how to dip,
roll, or just pick up our menu choices and savor new flavors.

The OHGLA Picnic, July 2007
The
ocean breezes cooled the OHGLA picnic which gave us delightful
weather in El Segundo. Forty-five members turned out to enjoy
hamburgers grilled by Warren B. and Jim R. Helen and Chuck D. made a
delicious pasta salad and selected perfect, juicy watermelons for
us.
Audrey
J. donated several boxes of See's Candy for our enjoyment. Joanne P.
brought cards, chess, cribbage, scrabble, dominoes and Trivial
Pursuit, but couldn't get anybody to partake. Jim and Liz I., who
rode their bikes from their home in Manhattan Beach, brought bocce
balls and were able to teach a few of the members the game. Richard
P. finally initiated his eagle kite from China. We were glad to
welcome and meet several new members. Those that missed this event
should plan to attend next year's picnic. Report by Joanne P.
